On March 23, 2007, Finkelstein Thompson LLP filed a lawsuit seeking class action status in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts against TJX Companies, Inc.  TJX operates hundreds of retail stores throghout the United States and overseas under the names T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Bob's Stores, and A.J. Wright stores.

The complaint alleges that TJX failed to implement reasonable security measures to protect its customer database systems, resulting in unauthorized intrusions into its computer systems in January 2003 through June 2004, and mid-May 2006 through December 2006 and the theft of customer credit and debit card information, driver's license and social security numbers.  TJX, however, did not announce the security breach until January 2007, after the busy holiday season.

TJX recently said in a filing with the Securities Exchange Commission that as many as 47.5 million customer records were stolen.  Reports have described the TJX security breach as the largest of its kind.  The suit alleges claims for negligence and unfair trade practices, among others.
