Seroquel has been approved to treat the depressive episodes and the acute manic episodes associated with bipolar I disorder and to treat adults with schizophrenia. A consolidated class action complaint has been filed against Seroquel manufacturers AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, LP, AstraZeneca PLC, AstraZeneca LP, and the marketing firm Parexel International Corp. alleging the companies illegally market and promote Seroquel for "off-label" uses - that is, for uses not approved by the FDA. Seroquel off-label uses include dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, anxiety, sleep disorders, anger management, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Tourette’s Syndrome. The complaint alleges that although less expensive alternatives to Seroquel were available on the market, the defendants’ scheme forced consumers to pay higher co-payments and out-of-pocket costs for Seroquel. |
