New Study Reveals Vytorin May Increase the Risk of Cancer
On Monday, July 21, 2008, scientists reported that Vytorin, a drug used to lower cholesterol, appears to increase the risk of cancer for those with heart-valve disease. The SEAS study (Simvastatin and Ezetimibe in Aortic Stenosis) involved nearly 1,900 patients whose heart valves were partially blocked. The participants were given either Vytorin or a placebo pill that contained no medicine. The trial results not only revealed that Vytorin showed no benefits to the patients, it also revealed that the patients taking Vytorin have a sharply higher risk of developing and dying from cancer. In the trial, 102 patients taking Vytorin developed cancer, compared to the 67 patients taking the placebo. Of those patients, 39 patients taking Vytorin died from the cancer, compared to 23 patients taking the placebo. See SEAS Study Press Release If you purchased Vytorin, with or without insurance reimbursement, and wish to discuss your possible legal remedies, or have other information regarding Vytorin that you would like to report, please submit a form, email us or contact our Washington, D.C. office toll free at (877) 337-8000
