Finkelstein Thompson LLP is investigating claims by Sony PlayStation 3 ("PS3") users that recent PS3 software updates may be causing malfunctions to the PS3 and that Sony is charging users approximately $150 to repair these problems.

According to a recently filed complaint, many PS3 users suffered damage to their console after downloading the latest software updates for the PS3 (Firmware 3.0 and Firmware 3.01).  The software updates have allegedly caused numerous problems to PS3 systems, including "freezing" during games, loss of controller use, and the malfunction of the PS3's Blu-ray Disc drive.  Despite the problems caused by the software, Sony has allegedly refused to repair the consoles unless PS3 owners pay approximately $150.
