LendingTree Financial Data Breach PDF Print E-mail
April 24, 2008

Finkelstein Thompson LLP is investigating a security breach at LendingTree LLC ("LendingTree").  LendingTree announced on April 21, 2008 that their mortgage customers' personal information may have been leaked to outside loan companies between October 2006 and early 2008 and used by the outside companies to market their own mortgages to LendingTree customers.  LendingTree is an online lending and realty services exchange that allows consumers to compare different loan offers.

Customers were notified by a letter or email from LendingTree that several former employees may have shared confidential passwords with outside lenders that were not approved by LendingTree.  The unapproved lenders used those passwords to access customer information containing names, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, income and employment information.  LendingTree has not disclose the date of the incident or the number of people affected.
