Finkelstein Thompson LLP is investigating a data breach that occurred at Express Scripts, Inc. (“Express Scripts”). On November 6, 2008, Express Scripts announced that millions of the company’s members may have had their sensitive personal and medical information, including social security numbers, birthdates, and prescriptions stolen by unknown entities. The breach became known in early October of 2008 when Express Scripts received a letter from an unknown person or persons threatening to publicly expose millions of the company’s members’ records. The original letter included the personal data of 75 Express Scripts members. In the past few days, similar letters have been sent to Express Scripts’ clients with the same threat. The company disclosed the breach of its data last week. Express Scripts is one of the largest pharmacy benefit management companies in North America. It provides insurance data for pharmacies on behalf of thousands of client groups, including managed-care organizations, insurance carriers, employers, third-party administrators, public sector, workers’ compensation, and union-sponsored benefit plans.
