Electronic Arts Football Video Game Investigation PDF Print E-mail
June 18, 2008

Finkelstein Thompson LLP is investigating whether Electronic Arts, Inc. ("EA") has violated antitrust laws by entering into exclusive licensing agreements with the National Football League ("NFL"), the Arena Football League ("AFL"), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association ("NCAA"), thereby driving competition out of the market for football video games.

A recently filed class action alleges that EA entered into a series of unlawful and anticompetitive agreements with the NFL, AFL, and NCAA to drive out competing video game companies. As the lawsuit alleges, once EA signed the exclusive licensing deals, Take Two Interactive Software, EA's only competitor in the football game market, was forced to stop producing its own football game, allowing EA to raise the price of Madden seventy percent from $29.95 to $49.99.
