Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Launches a Public Consumer Complaint Database PDF Print E-mail
June 19, 2012

The Consumer Complaint Database informs the public on complaint topics and reasoning. The Database includes the type of complaint, the date of submission, the consumer's zip code, and the company that the complaint concerns. Information about the specific action is also included on the Database. The public can see how the company responded, and in what time frame they took action. The database does not include confidential information about a consumer's identity.

The CFPB will continue to publish reports that organize and combine the complaints in terms of their subject. The CFPB has published a snapshot of complaints received through June 1, 2012. In that period, the CFPB has received more than 45,000 complaints. Among the findings in the snapshot report include:

  • Credit Cards: The CFPB has received 17,000 credit card complaints.
  • Mortgages: The CFPB officially began taking mortgage complaints in December 2011 and has received 19,000 mortgage complaints.
  • Checking Accounts: CFPB officially began taking complaints on bank products and services in March 2012. The CFPB has received 6,500 complaints.
