The Teflon litigation involves a series of statewide class actions from around the country that make similar allegations against DuPont for deceptive and unfair trade practices in marketing its Teflon® products. The complaint alleges that Dupont made false, misleading, and deceptive representations about the product and failed to disclose to the consuming public full and accurate information about the purported safety of Dupont's Teflon products. These cases have been transferred by the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa for pretrial purposes. According to the complaint, DuPont knew, or should have known, but failed to disclose that cookware coated in DuPont's Teflon product, when used as intended under normal everyday circumstances, can release harmful and dangerous substances, chemicals, and particulates, including toxins and likely human carcinogens, exposing consumers to potentially serious health risks. FT represents a putative class of purchasers in the District of Columbia. The action seeks monetary damages as well as equitable relief for a class of District of Columbia consumers who purchased cookware that was coated with, manufactured with, or contains Dupont's Teflon product. |
